This is a hack to the core, so any updates to Joomla 2.5 that touch the PHP file listed below will undo this change. You were warned!

Before you can add/change a button on the admin homepage, you have to upload the image for the button.

Image location:
administrator/templates/bluestork/images/header

I uploaded a new icon from https://www.iconfinder.com/

Then change the “helper.php” file located at:
administrator/modules/mod_quickicon

In helper.php. copy and paste an entire array:

array(
 'link' => JRoute::_('index.php?option=com_users'),
 'image' => 'header/icon-48-user.png',
 'text' => JText::_('MOD_QUICKICON_USER_MANAGER'),
 'access' => array('core.manage', 'com_users')
 ),

Then edit each line with the new info. Example:

array(
 'link' => JRoute::_('index.php?option=com_jevents'),
 'image' => 'header/icon_calendar.png',
 'text' => JText::_('Calendar'),
 'access' => array('core.manage', 'com_jevents')
 ),

In the example above, I changed both instances of “com_user” to “com_jevents”, I changed the image, and I changed the JText from a language string to the text I wanted to display on my admin homescreen.

Second Option

Asikart QuickIcons (AQI)

Its free. Its easy to use. I've had no issues with it at all. Highly recommended.
